While there are, at this point, few clinical research studies about the medical benefits of CBD oil for dogs, there is an abundance of anecdotal evidence of the therapeutic effects of CBD for pets. Generally, it is a matter of how the cannabidiol is extracted and from what type of plant, hemp or marijuana.
For years, humanity’s main defense against chronic pain has been opioids. However, opioid addiction has quickly become a major issue in America with 450,000 people dying from overdoses involving prescription and illicit opioids from 1999 to 2018. The 2014 Farm Bill legalized the does CBD oil really work sale of "non-viable hemp material" grown within states participating in the Hemp Pilot Program which defined hemp as cannabis containing less than 0.3% of THC. By federal law, private enterprises developing hemp-derived CBD are obligated to cultivate hemp exclusively for industrial purposes, which involve the fiber and seed, but not the flowering tops which contain THC and CBD. Hemp CBD products may not be sold into general commerce, but rather are allowed only for research.
This study demonstrates some of the benefits that consumers find with CBD for pain. In our work, we found anxiety benefit that was rapid and without significant side effects. We need more studies to clarify all of these findings, but the basic science and early clinical results support a strong signal that echoes the relief indicated in this survey.
This includes additional efforts to identify the efficacies of specific cannabis compounds and their combinations, as well as ideal methods of administration through the assessment of relevant endpoints. Subsequent clinical trials should also consider the differences in cannabinoid pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics among individuals. Moreover, standardized and validated evaluation and reporting of cannabis-associated side effects is warranted in order to enable more accurate comparisons across studies. However, the few studies that were produced on the use of medical cannabis for cancer pain management have results that suggest it does possess therapeutic potential, and is at least worthy of further investigation. In the three studies on nabiximols included in this review, self-titration was recommended up to a maximum dose of 8 sprays/3-hour period , and 11–16 sprays/day .
The doses found to produce significant pain relief include an average of 8.75 sprays/day , 1–4 sprays/day , and 6–10 sprays/day . It was observed that the high dose group of patients who utilised 11–16 sprays/day did not experience significant pain relief compared to placebo. Similarly, Lynch et al. found that at a high dose of an average of 8 sprays/day there was no significant pain relief observed in comparison to placebo .
